If you’re a small business on the move, then you need to be able to access your accounting platform as and when you need it. That means being able to carry it with you wherever you go in the form of a mobile app. But with so many accountancy apps on the market, it can get a bit confusing working out which one will offer you the most comprehensive and effective accountancy options on your mobile.

To offer you a helping hand, we have decided to take a closer look at some of the best mobile accountancy apps that can really benefit your business.

QuickBooks

If you already know a little bit about small business accountancy software then you will probably have heard of QuickBooks. This is one of the most popular accounting options on the market and for good reason. It has multiple versions that you can tailor to your business and some of the best features available in any software. But how does the mobile version measure up?

Generally, it is one of the most user-friendly apps on the market and has generated thousands of excellent user reviews. It is currently rated 4.6 out of 5 in the App Store. Although you can’t access all of the QuickBooks software in the app version, you can still use it to see bank statements, send invoices, capture receipts and attach them to expenses. You can then use all this to view profit and loss statements.

The app is free with your software subscription. So, if you already use this service, it’s definitely a great option to go for.

Xero

Another of the big names in accountancy software, this is also a great mobile option for people who need to manage their business away from their desk.

The first thing that has to be said is that the app doesn’t have as many features as the QuickBooks app, so it loses out a little bit in terms of user experience. Some of the features aren’t quite as intuitive and this can mean it takes a little longer to achieve what you want on the app. However, there is still a comprehensive range of services, including the ability to reconcile bank statements, send professional-looking invoices and process receipts and expenses.

Similar to QuickBooks, you will need a small business account in order to access the app but this also comes as part of the pricing plan. The most affordable plan starts from just a few pounds a month, although you can also get more comprehensive plans if you are willing to invest in the software.

Receipt Bank

This is another software developer that aims to take the hassle out of doing your accounts. And with their mobile app, you can achieve this wherever you’re doing business. If you do business on the move, then you know how annoying it can be to have to keep track of all the bits of paper that are business related. Receipt Bank makes it easy to turn these into valuable data that your business can use to garner important data.

You can use the app to scan your receipts and process them online. These are then moved into the software and can be accessed as and when you need them. This cuts the time and cost of dealing with receipts, with no more big shoe boxes full of paper to trawl through at the end of the tax year.

The app has earned many positive reviews on sites like GetApp, with a positive rating of 4.3 out of 5. It scores very highly in terms of its features and ease of use, which for a mobile app are very important. In fact, 88% of the reviews are positive and 96% said they would recommend the app to friends or colleagues.

FreeAgent

This has been voted the UK’s number one small business accounting app, so you can be sure that it’s going to be a good one. FreeAgent sells itself as your small business’s new best friend and they are not too far off the mark. It aims to bring everything together, including invoice and expense management and VAT. You can also use it for payroll and tax return purposes.

The changes you make using the app are automatically made to your overall accounts so you can have a completely visible system in place at all times. So, if you need to add expenses after your lunch meeting, send invoices on the move or check your profits while you’re out with the family, then it’s all available at your fingertips. The result: less time doing admin, more time focusing on the business or enjoying your free time.

You can easily use the app to collaborate with your accountant or business advisor even if you’re working remotely. You can select who has access to your account and give them various levels of permission according to your needs.

All of the data is backed up several times an hour using a secure server, giving you complete trust in what they’re offering. In fact, the security for the app is the same level of SSL as banks use, so you’re in safe hands. Plus, if you do have any issues, there is a dedicated team of support accountants on hand to answer your questions.

So, if you’re thinking about expanding your accounts software to be able to do business on the move, any of the above apps in conjunction with an accountant can help you to keep everything up to date.
